Premiere of ‘Thora Jee Le’ held in Karachi

Mahtab Akbar Rashdi and HUM Films hosted an exclusive movie premiere for their first release of the year, 
Thora Jee Le in Karachi.

‘Thora Jee le’ is a comedy/drama film written and directed by Rafay Rashdi, produced by 1NFLUENCE and executively produced by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi. The youthful movie has been shot in Karachi and Larkana.
The cast includes some of the young and talented actors in the Pakistani film industry namely, Rizwan Ali Jaffri, Bilal Abbas, Ramsha Khan, Salman Faisal, Fatima Shah Jillani, Kasim Khan and Ahsan Mohsin Ikram.

The premier had a star studded red carpet with the star cast of the movie.

‘Thora Jee Le’ released on 20thJanuary 2017 under the banner of Hum Films. The story revolves around seven individuals belonging to different backgrounds and how their lives transform as they enter their practical life. Thora Jee Le a bad exhibition of Pakistan’s film industry By Khurram Zia Khan

Recently released movie Thora Jee Le is a poor exhibition of Pakistan film industry. It was the first movie of Rafay Rashdi as writer and director and even though in his directorial debut his performance is satisfactory but as a writer he is absolutely awful.
Movie depicts the fruits of long term friendship but throughout all the scenes viewers witnessed confused friendship, where characters were seen brawling and backbiting among themselves.

Story of the movie was moving in a circle instead of moving forward. Everyone was left perplexed and couldn’t comprehend what exactly the director has tried to convey through this story plot.

The movie is about seven debutant actors out of which six are college day friends. It will be much better if instead of showing just six all the seven are shown as college friends.

Movie was shot in Karachi and Larkana but no monument of any of these cities was shown. It would’ve been more enticing for viewers if some parts of Larkana were shown instead of confining the movie inside the walls of a palace.

Ramsha Khan was shown as a workaholic person but barring one scene her professional life was not shown in movie

Ahsan Mohsin Ikram is the only actor who in few scenes showed his wonderful acting skills but again he is portrayed as a confused husband. He was giving space to his wife to mingle up with her friends and at the same time he was doubting her character although going forward his thoughts were proved true when Rizwan Jaffar revealed his feelings of love for Rimsha years after the end of college life. Guys like Rizwan are the dream for any girl. He belongs to high class strata of society. I really don’t know what stopped him from revealing his love for one of her university colleagues and why he did not share his feelings at the right time when he could have. Also what was the point of disclosing the feelings after so many years, considering that she has gotten married and a lot of water passed under the bridge.
Although the movie is about positivity of friendship but the message it gave is that move forward in life and don’t interact too much with old friends.

Bilal Abbas shown as drug addict and he was portrayed as a weak person. The unfortunate part is that his death is unable to spark real feelings of sadness and movie concluded with the feeling that life or death of someone has no bearing on anyone and whatever the situation life moves on.

Comedy was pathetic and can be classified as totally needless and senseless. Purpose of comedy is to make people laugh not to make them feel gross. Hope the writer learns from his error and avoids presenting such low quality comedy in his future projects.

Songs were devoid of lyrics. Worst part is that situations were implausibly created to include the songs. 

I am of the view that Rafay Rashdi should stick to only direction and he should take services of a professional movie writer to create story of this movie.

Pakistan’s cinema is passing through a crucial phase. Due to political situation, exhibition of Indian content is ban and survival of cinemas is totally dependent on local content. In this scenario, we need high quality content to attract viewers towards cinema,but movies like Thora Jee Le will push viewers away from cinema houses

The Rise of Armeena Rana Khan

Canadian/Pakistani actress Armeena Rana Khan has been climbing the ladder of success with each passing year and delivering one hit after the other on television and films simultaneously. Another noteworthy aspect of Armeena’s success has undoubtedly been her effortless acting in versatile roles.
Having faced difficulties in transitioning to Pakistan’s entertainment industry from the UK, Armeena’s dedication to her craft has not just been acknowledged but also greatly appre-ciated by fans. In a deliberate attempt to avoid being stereotyped, the actress has been very particular about the roles she takes up. Her portrayals of characters such as Fiza, a village girl with limited exposure in Mohabbat Ab Nahi Hogi or Dua, a traditional middle class girl in Ishq Parast, are a great example of her hard work. 

When asked about difficulties in transferring to the Pakistani industry, Armeena admits “I found it challenging initially interpreting my characters and remember receiving a lot of crit-ical feedback in the early years. Because of this I began researching my roles on a deeper level so that I could create memorable characters. It is tricky as an actor when you have not grown up in a place and I have to work a lot harder. But this where I excel because I promised myself that I would not be outworked by anyone when I am on a project.”

Armeena spent the past few weeks traveling to various smaller cities of Pakistan including Multan, Bhawalpur and Pak Pathan. She kept her fans updated through her social media accounts, and has now confirmed that these trips were part of her research for her latest role playing Haya, a shy and introverted but strong female lead in the upcoming Rasm-e-Duniya (ARY Television).

“I needed to immerse myself in the sounds, smells and above all beliefs of my character. I wanted to visit the shrines where she looks for hope in her dark hours. I wanted to experience going out in her world. How does she interact with strangers and shop keepers? How does she travel to their shops? I wanted to buy what she buys and feel what she feels. These small things help me understand her. Of course audiences will not see this work behind Haya but hopefully it will show through on your screens.”, shares Armeena.

2017 is going to be a milestone year for Armeena, as she will not only be making her Pakistani television comeback but her highly awaited movie project Yalghaar will also be releasing which is touted to be Pakistan’s most expensive movie so far. Her career will be taken a notch higher with two major international projects; British feature film The Real Target and The Achilles Protocol, a British sci-fi short film.

Imran Malik's intense love story, Azaadi’s teaser is set to release on 5thFebruary 2017. The film stars veteran actor Moammar Rana and model/Actor Sonya Hussyn.
The movie has been produced by Irfan Malik, and directed by veteran film producer/director Pervez Malik's son Imran Malik who has also written the story. The dialogues of the film are written by Wajid Zuberi.
The cast of the movie also includes renowned actors such as Nadeem and Javed Sheikh, as well as new age actors which include Maryam Ansari, Ali Fateh, Samama, Waseem, Erum, Ali bilal to name a few. The film, which is being made under the banner of Pervez Malik Films, also has some special surprise appearances.
Azaadi is the first film to release under the banner of ARY Films this year.

DPS Festival of Lights Illuminates Hope in People

Dawood Public School (DPS) organized “DPS Festival of Lights”, a fundraising event full of shimmering lights and unique illuminated artifacts. The fun-filled festival aims to generate funds that will help the deserving patients visiting Lady Dufferin Hospital. DPS Festival of Lights is sponsored by Engro Foundation whereas Karachi School of Business and Leadership (KSBL) assisted as social outreach partner of the event. The festival was similar to its international counterparts with shows, fireworks, food stalls and much more.

The school transformed itself for the festival and mesmerized visitors with displays made of various lights. Each of the school marked its presence with an extraordinary display including stick-men made of lights and giant flowers made out of LEDs!

One of the main attraction at the festival was children’s ‘Olper’s Light Parade’. Groups of little girls appeared with glittering costumes, followed by lit-up hula-hoops, aeroplanes, and other decorated ornaments that added more colours to the cavalcade. The well decorated truck carrying a fairy princess reigned the parade. The fairy princess was attired in a specially designed “fairy costume” made entirely of elegant purple LEDs with white LED light wings.
The festival had numerous fascinating performances including Tron Dance by Shehzad Danger Crew and a thrilling fire performance. DPS students had several stalls that engaged visitors in constant bargain hunting for various delicious snacks and fun games. The activity aimed to teach children how to interact with people and make transactions in real life.

Sharing her excitement to be part of this activity Rabail Soomro of Class 8 said ‘DPS Festival of Lights is a great platform for the students to hone their entrepreneurial skills. From coming up with business ideas to making marketing strategy to grab customers attention at the event gave all of us to use our limited resources in a creative way.’ ‘The best part of the festival is that we will be helping deserving patients through the proceeds, this is how we would like to play our part in the cause.’

There are hundreds of possible metics you can use to understand how your business is performing, but these critical five will tell you all you need to know.



1. Customer perception. What percentage of your customers feel you offer "amazing" service? Is the perception on the rise or declining? Many organizations use internal measures of service: statistics generated by systems that manage the service process. 

I have seen problems when you rely only on internals. They may suggest you are performing well, but the results are at odds with what the customer says. 

Use internal stats as a diagnostic tool to understand customer perception data, but don't rely on them as an accurate measure of how customers feel about your service.

2. Top line revenue . Gross revenue is the expression of how the market views the value you provide your customers. 

It is an excellent bellwether of whether or not your customers love what you do for them, or not. 

3. Operating margin. Some refer to it as EBITDA - earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization - which tells you how much of each dollar of revenue you have left accounting for the costs of producing it. 

The higher the operating margin, the more efficient you are in production activities. When margin is low, it means your operating expenses are too high; you are relatively inefficient at revenue generation.

4. Customer share. Often referred to as "share of wallet", this metric describes the proportion of the customer's business that you have  versus your competitors. 

A high percentage and you are doing a great job of penetrating the account with your solutions (but you are probably a target for your competition); a low percentage and you have room to sell and a have healthy growth potential. 

Most organizations measure market share. The problem I have with the metric is that it is an expression of your piece of the TOTAL market including the customers you are not targeting. It really doesn't tell you how effectively you are selling to those customers you have chosen to focus on 

5. Customer retention. How many customers leave you every month? Are you losing more than you are acquiring? A loyal customers’ base is necessary if a business is to constantly grow and have some degree of stability. 

Correlating retention data with revenue provides an insight into why, for example, revenue is increasing (or decreasing). Is the driver more customers, or greater share from your targeted customer base that is relatively stable?

Some organizations have a "Performance Results" function which can get infatuated with measuring as many performance variables possible.

Don't go there. 

Keep it simple. 


Keep it to the critical few.

Written by a young and promising playwright Aamir Raza the 17-episode drama serial is directed by the maestro Kashif Nisar who is known for handling sensitive subjects sensibly and convincingly. ‘Farz’ is a latest production of Sixth Sense Communications that is well known for its issue-based communications through entertainment with thought provoking products ‘Kis Se Kahoon’ and ‘Aasha – Ik Umeed’ to its credit; that also ran on PTV Home.
The protagonist is a girl next door who takes charge of her life and becomes an epitome of success and courage for the weaker gender. The character of Aliya brilliantly played by Sonia Mishal, shows how, fighting back patriarchy and discrimination at every level, she rises to become a police officer to steer her life through.

HBLPSL season 2 kick-starts today in Dubai By Khurram Zia

HBL brings yet another exciting season of Pakistan’s biggest cricket event, HBL Pakistan Super League (HBLPSL). The league kick-starts today in Dubai with a grand opening ceremony having performances by acclaimed Jamaican reggae singer Shaggy along with Pakistani pop artists Ali Zafar and Shehzad Roy. The ceremony will be followed by the first face-off match of the season between defending champions Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.



Islamabad, who have veteran Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq as their inspirational leader, clash with a Peshawar side that now has the talismanic Darren Sammy as the captain in place of flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi. 

Darren Sammy is the only captain to lead his team to the title of T20 world cup twice and he also aspires to make Pesawar Zalmi champions of HBL PSL.

As last year, the five teams participating in the league are Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, with each team comprising of both Pakistani and international players. The series will be hosted by UAE with matches being played in Dubai and Sharjah. However, the highlight of HBLPSL 2.0 will be the final clash, which will be played in Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore on March 5.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chief, Mr. Najam Sethi said, “I am delighted with the progress that we have made in a span of 12 months. We are ready to deliver the second edition of HBL Pakistan Super League and we are confident that the second season will be even bigger and better than the last season. We have some of the biggest T20 stars featuring in the tournament and we are all set to witness some enthralling cricket.”

He further added, “Pakistanis around the world can be proud of this tournament as we have succeeded in portraying the message that we are cricket lovers and absolutely passionate about the game. We hope to see crowds in big numbers in the two UAE venues Dubai and Sharjah. The final in Lahore should be the crowning glory for HBLPSL 2017. HBL PSL this year will be handing out caps to the bowlers with most wickets and the batsman with most runs. 

The bowler with the most wickets in the tournament will wear the maroon cap, while the batsman who has the highest number of runs to his credit will flaunt the green cap. It will be interesting to see how much the two caps change possession.

The two caps of honour will also endorse the Edhi foundation logo in memory of Abdul Sattar Edhi who passed away last year.
